Force on a current-carrying wire in a magnetic field (Lorentz force)

If a current carrying conductor is in a magnetic field, the conductor will experience a force and will move if it is free to do so. The movement, magnetic field and the current are all at right angles to each other.

This image shows the effect of an electric current going through a wire in a magnetic field. The green arrow represents the magnetic field and the blue ones the force:
